Crochet Stitches: The Slip Knot

Video Transcript:

The beginning of all crochet projects starts with getting the yarn on the hook. This is done with a slip knot. There are a variety of ways to do a slip knot, in this video, I will show you how I do mine.

Step 1:    leaving a tail of at least 6 inches, Long enough to weave in later with a needle, Wrap the yarn around your index finger making an x

Step 2:    Slide the yarn off the index finger, while maintaining the loop, having the tail end fall across the back of the circle.

Step 3:    Insert your hook under the tail-end that’s crossing the circle

Step 4: Create a loop by pulling the working yarn and the tail end away from the hook. To tighten the loop, pull the tail end and working yarn apart to move the knot up.

This completes your slip knot and you are ready to begin chaining.
